Question

How Should I set this up?

I have the following set up…

LB -> apache cluster (3 hosts) -> Gluster cluster (4 hosts w/ replication) | | V Load Balancer -> db cluster (3 hosts w/ Galera)

My question is should this be how it is set up? The two load balancers would physically be the same one just have different rules to send data for apache to the apache cluster and then mariadb to the db cluster.

please let me know

Hello,

The setup looks good. As long as you are using a DigitalOcean managed Loadbalancer it should be OK, as DigitalOcean Load Balancers are configured with automatic failover to maintain availability even when failures occur at the balancing layer. Internally, the active balancing component is monitored and fails over to a standby if necessary, meaning your load balancer is never a single point of failure.

If you are not planning to use managed Loadbalancer but HAProxy for example, I would suggest using Heartbeat and Floating IP and setup 2 HPAproxy load balancers:
