You can make a snapshot of your droplet and then destroy it. After that, build a new droplet from your snapshot and this time be sure to enable backups.

The IP of your old droplet should be kept if you recreate it soon after destruction, but if you’re worried you can open a ticket and DO support can reserve the IP for you.
You have to tick “Enable Backups” on Droplet creation. You cannot do it after it is created.
