You can make a snapshot of your droplet and then destroy it. After that, build a new droplet from your snapshot and this time be sure to enable backups.

<br>The IP of your old droplet should be kept if you recreate it soon after destruction, but if you’re worried you can open a ticket and DO support can reserve the IP for you.
