I am currently trying to migrate a rails web app on my digital ocean droplet to AWS. Is there a safe and easy way to do this?

  • What can we do to make you want to keep it here? :)

  • I actually have no problem with digital ocean, the service is great. I, however, recently received $5000 in AWS credits. So I wish to set up my production instance on AWS to cover some costs.

  • I think Amazon’s partnership with certain startup accelerators and programs (whereby amazon grants credits of $1000+) is a pretty good business strategy. Many start ups have limited funding and often set up their projects on AWS when they are given credits by specific programs and accelerators. These start-ups cover their initial monthly burn on AWS with the credit, and when the credits are used up, the successful ones are likely to stay on AWS and pay Amazon (after they get funding) because migration can be difficult sometimes and cause issues. I would definitely stay with digital ocean if you offer a credits program for start-ups. (I asked my credit provider and they do not have a credits program with digital ocean).

I hope this reason is helpful!

  • Thank you for letting me know. I definitely understand the reason. If you’re ever interested in a similar program here, keep our Hatch program in mind :)
