How to set up GoDaddy MX records with DigitalOcean

Posted on March 11, 2017

I have a problem to set the MX records on the DO. I have an account with GoDaddy, but I am using the DO for service. However, I also bought the emails service with GoDaddy to and I have problem to set up. According to GoDaddy if I dont make service with them, they dont provide service for emails too.

My question, how to setup it so I can start receiving emails from outside the world?

I do not have any resource at GoDaddy but I know how to use the third party DNS service. You can try below:

  1. Confirm that you have replaced the default nameserver with DigitalOcean (ns1.digitalocean.com etc.) at Godday’s domain setting panel.
  2. Waiting and checking the new nameserver is effective.
  3. Add these records with GoDaddy email service at DigitalOcean’s Domain tab, these records should contain MX, TXT, maybe also have CNAME if it provide web-based login interface
