How to setup mastadon sever

I’m looking into setting up a mastadon server with the pre-built droplet. It’s suggesting that I use premium intel with 4 cpu’s but am I able to create it on the most basic cpu and upgrade it later? It’s just i don’t think the server will be that popular to begin with. Also can I add on storage later too. How difficult will this be to do later down the line? Also how much time do you think it would take to setup a server? Would a full day suffice?

Hi there,

Rather than setting up everything manually, what you could do is to use this 1-Click installation from the Marketplace:

https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/mastodon

The whole setup should not take more than e few minutes.

I would recommend preparing the following beforehand:

An SMTP server, you could use SendGrid for example as they offer a free plan
For the storage, I would recommend setting it up initially so that you don’t have to change that later on, you could use the DigitalOcean Spaces which comes at $5 per month

Once you have that in place, you can follow the setup instructions on the Mastadon 1-Click page directly.
