I can not add a domain to the droplet

I can not add a domain to the droplet. I see an error all the time - Domain ‘’: name already exists.

What to do?

If you’re trying to add the domain name in your account you can make sure that the domain name is not already added in different DO account of yours or in another team as well.

The system performs a DNS lookup to see if the domain has already been added to DigitalOcean. If it has, you’ll receive a message that says Data domain Name already exists. If the domain has not been previously added to DigitalOcean’s DNS service, it will be added.

It really depends on the Web Server you are using - Apache/Nginx. However the error itself would state you actually have it added to the configuration.

If you are using Nginx, give this article a read :

Don’t mind that it’s for Ubuntu 16.04, it should work as well on 18.04.
