Hello, @mubarok280797

The system performs a DNS lookup to see if the domain has already been added to DigitalOcean. If it has, you’ll receive a message that says that the domain example.com: Name already exists. If the domain has not been previously added to DigitalOcean’s DNS service, it will be added.

In our public community, we aim to answer open questions about anything SysAdmin, DigitalOcean and beyond. However, we make every attempt to keep personal information safe and so don’t ever access personal account information here. This means we can’t provide help with any account or billing-related issues.

Hey all,

In case someone else stumbles upon this question I want to give a definitive answer.

Basically, when you see the ‘# Domain name already exists’ it means the domain you are trying to add is already added under another account in the system. Yes, it might be a newly purchased domain but this still might be the case.

In such situations, It’s always best to contact DigitalOcean’s Support and ask them to assist you in the matter. In such cases, you’ll need to verify the ownership of the domain by adding a DNS record to its DNS zone proving it is in fact you who is controlling it.

As for the support link, you can reach DigitalOcean’s support here

Hope that helps! - KFSys.
