I can't connect to any port 25 (I've tried yahoo mail server), so I can't send mail from the vps :(

Posted on October 14, 2012

I have installed sendmail, and while I can receive mails, I’m unable to send. I tried to telnet to port 25 of the destination server, and it fails.

I’m able to do it on other vps I have on another company, so I know the destination server is fine.

this command fails here: $ telnet mta7.am0.yahoodns.net 25 (it never connects…)

In the other vps, it works correctly: $ telnet mta7.am0.yahoodns.net 25 Trying 66.94.238.147… Connected to mta7.am0.yahoodns.net. Escape character is ‘^]’. 220 mta1411.mail.mud.yahoo.com ESMTP YSmtp service ready

Is blocked? Can I ask to unblock it? is necessary that to have a mail server on the vps.

I’ve checked firewall table in my VPS, and doesn’t see if port 25 is blocked. But, when i tried :

telnet smtp.gmail.com 25

Trying 74.125.28.109…

Unable to connect from port 25. I can receive email, but because of unable to connect from port 25, i can’t send email.

Port 25 is blocked by DigitalOcean ? If yes, can i suggest to open/allow port 25 in my VPS ?

I have just followed the above post to set up the postfix service. Do I need to request to unblock port 25 and 587?

Hello. I have opened an account just to have my personal email (schillaci.com) hosted here, while all my clients are hosted in 3-4 other dedicated servers in other providers. <br>Is this block still active?
