Installing vagrant-digitalocean plugin fails with ruby error

Installing vagrant-digitalocean plung in Mac fails with the following ruby version error. Does anyone have any suggestions I could try??

$ ruby -v
ruby 3.1.2p20 (2022-04-12 revision 4491bb740a) [arm64-darwin23]

$ gem install faraday-net_http
Successfully installed faraday-net_http-3.1.0

$ vagrant plugin install vagrant-digitalocean
Installing the 'vagrant-digitalocean' plugin. This can take a few minutes...
Vagrant failed to properly resolve required dependencies. These
errors can commonly be caused by misconfigured plugin installations
or transient network issues. The reported error is:

faraday-net_http requires Ruby version >= 3.0.0. The current ruby version is 2.7.4.191.

Hey!

I believe that Vagrant uses its own embedded version of Ruby, which might be different from the system Ruby version.

You should be able to check the Ruby version used by Vagrant by running this command:

vagrant -v
vagrant plugin list

And then you can also try to upgrade to the latest version of Vagrant, as it may include a newer embedded Ruby version:

brew update
brew upgrade vagrant
