Joomla Subpages not working

We are using Joolma version 2.5 . On hosting the website , none of the subpages get displayed . We get an Error 500 . Could you please help us on this ?

Tried disabling sef … it didnt work . What is disabling the site name ? didnt understand that
configuration file in your site’s root.
