Hi DigitalOcean Team,
I recently wrote about DigitalOcean signing me whenever I switched between my laptop and desktop. You explained back then that the system requires a new sign on IP address changes. I found that a bit excessive (you could just remember the last N IP addresses), but okay.
But now it’s gotten even more excessive. It signs me out after just a few yours even when on the same machine.
This is annoying and frustrating especially with 2FA turned on. I’m inclined to turn it off because its become such a nuisance.
I really understand security concerns but there is absolutely no reason to sign out a user after a couple of hours.
I’m running Linux with Chromium 144.0.7559.109.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards Philipp

Hi there,
If you’re getting signed out after a few hours on the same machine, that’s usually not expected behavior.
Can you make sure cookies are enabled and not being cleared automatically (Chromium privacy settings, extensions, or system cleanup tools)?
Also, I’ve seent this happen when using a VPN. Check if you’re using any VPN, proxy, or frequently changing network that could trigger session invalidation.
Another thing you could try is testing in a clean browser profile or incognito mode to rule out extensions. Some extensions can interfere with session cookies.
If the issue keeps happening, I’d recommend opening a support ticket directly with DigitalOcean so they can check your account/session logs and investigate further:
Heya, @philippmayerhofer
Make sure your browser is not set to clear cookies on exit, and check whether any privacy extensions are removing or restricting session cookies. Tools like uBlock, Privacy Badger, Cookie AutoDelete, or strict tracking protection settings can interfere with authentication cookies and cause repeated logouts.
Disabling 2FA isn’t advisable from a security standpoint, but if this is a session handling issue rather than expected security behaviour, support should be able to investigate it further.
Regards
Same thing started happening to me too recently (2026) It’s freaking annoying getting logged out every few hours especially with 2FA enabled. When will this be fixed!?
