Load balancer: Add IP / hash based sticky sessions

Posted on July 23, 2025

Currently load balancers only suport sticky sessions via cookies. That isn’t useful when load balancing non browser traffic (e.g. JSON-RPC, gRPC, etc.).

Therefore please provide a way to enable sticky sessions via IP/port hash for example.

Hi there,

Looking at the docs, I think that you’re right that the DigitalOcean Load Balancer only supports cookie-based stickiness, which doesn’t help with gRPC or JSON-RPC.

What you could do is post this as a feature request on the DigitalOcean ideas board:

If you decide to post the idea, make sure to share the link here so other users could also upvote it!

Also worth pinging the DigitalOcean support so they log the use case and maybe give you some suggestions in the meantime: https://do.co/support
