Load Balancer TLS/SSL termination traffic routing over the internet?

Posted on August 19, 2017

If I terminate a TLS/SSL connection at a load balancer and forward traffic on to the droplets on port 80 is this unencrypted traffic routed over the internet? Droplets have public ip addresses so I assume this is the case unless behind the scenes DO have routing tables from the LB ip ranges to the droplet ip ranges to route the traffic internally.

Your question is already answered here.

For reference: Yes, if your droplet has “private” networking, the load balancer will use that as default. If it doesn’t, it’ll use the public IP. You can modify the health check direction and port in the load balancer advanced settings.
