Managing email and email images

Email Ubuntu 18.04

I was just about to move my server over to DO and then I realised that whilst I can manage backups via cron and the lamp stack I have no idea how to run and really do not want to run a mail server

I was wondering what my options are? and why wouldnt DO run an image that created a mail sever for a domain name. This seems to be an essential part of running a web application and would almost certainly be one of these issues that everyone is going have to face

Cheers

Hey friend,

Running a mail server is a lot of work, and providing a one-click mail server would actually be misleading to customers who would think that it could function without the same difficulties of running your own (as it would be running your own, minus the software installation). We actually have an article about it here:

There are many email providers out there that can make things easier for you by managing your email. Off the top of my head, some popular ones are GSuite, ZoHo, Yandex, and Fastmail. There are, of course, many more to be found.

When setting up a web site or application under your own domain, it is likely that you will also want a mail server to handle the domain's incoming and outgoing email. While it is possible to run your own mail server, it is often not the best option for a variety of reasons. This guide will cover many of the reasons that you may not want to run your own mail server, and offer a few alternatives.
