MariaDb / Mysql server on a volume

Posted on March 25, 2019

Hello,

Did anyone ever try to put the datadir of a mariadb / mysql server directly on a DO Volume? Do you know if there are any latency added by doing so or it can be done without any problems?

Greetings!

I’ve actually heard of a lot of customers doing this. The results vary though. Someone with moderate database needs tends to have no problem with it, while someone with a database that gets hammered with a lot of read/write every second of the day finds it to cause problems.

Traffic to volumes is intended to be fast, but not intended to hit the same IOPS as the droplet’s local SSD array.
