Is there a way to auto-install WordPress from DO Marketplace after spinning up a Droplet? When I try to add WP from the marketplace after the fact it sends me into the path of purchasing and creating a new droplet?

You can create new Droplets with the available images from the Marketplace.
In case you want to install specific software on an existing Droplet like WordPress in your case, you could follow this step by step tutorial here:
