Hello, I am thinking about buying one of the digitalocean plans solely to host a Minecraft server. I was just wondering which plan would be best for a server that has about 5-10 people online at once. While I was doing research on this topic, I noticed that some people were experiencing crashes, lag spikes etc. If I were to purchase one of these plans, which one would be able to hold said amount of people without any of the problems listed above. Thanks!

I have set up several MC servers on droplets. This guide is great for getting a vanilla server up and running.
While it maybe possible to run a server for 5-10 users on a 512MB droplet I would recommend the 1GB droplet or larger for the best experience. You will likely want to set up a swap file and be sure to set the memory limits in the command you use to launch the server to a value that leaves enough remaining RAM for the OS.
Hello, all
Choosing the right Droplet plan depends on your workload. An oversized Droplet would underuse its resources and cost more, but an undersized Droplet running at full CPU or memory would suffer from degraded performance or errors.
You can also resize a Droplet to a larger plan after creation, including resizing to a larger Droplet plan of a different kind. For example, you can resize from a Basic Droplet plan to a larger CPU-Optimized Droplet plan. See the Droplet pricing page for a full list of plans and prices.
I would recommend selecting a droplet with at least 1GB of RAM and then upgrading in the future if this is needed.

Hope that this helps! Regards, Alex
Hi @draco123465,
It’s hard to say precisely, having said that looking at the following page in the Minecraft fandom wiki - https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Server/Requirements/Dedicated
It suggests 5GB of RAM for 5 to 7 people on the server. This does seem a little bit extreme. With that said, I’ll recommend getting a droplet with about 2 to 3 GB of RAM and upgrade it afterward if needed.
Additionally, don’t forget to add SWAP to your Droplet as well.
