Move an exisiting VPS to a different Digital Ocean Account

Posted on February 24, 2015

Is it possible to move an existing ubuntu14.04 (or any) VPS droplet to another Digital Ocean account?

Was thinking if I ran a backup I could import this back into a new DO account…but not sure if this is possible?

As mentioned before by @ahrotahntee you can create an image/snapshot and transfer it to another account. If accounts belong to different people then is no issue, if not, ask with support before creating the new account.

You can create a snapshot of the droplet and transfer it to another account. Please keep in mind it is against the ToS to have multiple accounts unless you notify the support team first!

Ok. Thank you. I can work with that.

Though the second account would have different billing details as well…if that makes any difference.

TOS Item - 3.6 Subscribers are restricted from registering multiple Accounts with the same billing details without first notifying DigitalOcean of that intent.
