Moving From Cpanel to Droplets (FTP)

Posted on May 8, 2015

Hi, i have been using cPanel for many years.

I have recently changed over to Digital Ocean. I find a HUGE improvement in performance, however i find it difficult to carry out some commands that used to only take seconds in cPanel.

Does anyone have any Intro tutorial or newbie tutorials that help show how things are carried out on Droplets.

I’m still struggling to get FTP access :-(

Thanks in advance for your help.

You shouldn’t be using ftp and it wouldn’t come preinstalled anyway. You can use ssh which you would’ve had those details sent to your email and you use sftp which uses the ssh protocol. And for the love of god, don’t use FTP anymore. When I’ve used cpanel long LONG ago there’s only a few options anyway that are in the DO control panel but much better. And also… Don’t dare install cpanel x.x

Hello, Droplets run the Linux operating system. Any beginner tutorials on Linux should help you out.

Your Droplet has SFTP (secure file transfer protocol) out of box. To use it you would use your IP address, port 22, the root user and your root password. If you have used something like Filezilla before, you can use that with SFTP.
