My backup service needs an ssh user account and I have no idea how to create one, limit privileges and access rights and give it to them. I do not want to end up messing up my server giving them a root account. Appreciated if someone could show me some pointers. Thanks a lot

Also I have one more question. Right now, why can’t I create backup service on digitalocean which backup everyday instead of once in a week ? If I could backup my droplet everyday then I wouldn’t need to subscribe an external backup service.

This tutorial will guide you in setting up a new ssh user along with taking some other initial security steps for your new droplet.

Currently there are internal limitations and price considerations that caused us to select a weekly backup schedule. This may change in the future.

When you start a new server, there are a few steps that you should take every time to add some basic security and set a solid foundation. In this guide, we'll walk you through the basic steps necessary to hit the ground running with Ubuntu 14.04.

One solution is to encrypt the local backup and limit the remote backup service to access encrypted files only. rsnapshot, rsyncrypto and rsync may be used for this purpose.
I’m using it on a daily basis both with FreeBSD and Ubuntu

  • Thanks for the information. I am not so much of a tech guy and it sounded a bit geeky to me but I will look into the solution. Definitely, it sounds like something worth learning too. Thanks a lot
