Determining the needs of a particular site depend on numerous variables:

  • What software stack is your site using?
  • Are you running a database on your server as well as your web services?
  • What level of traffic are you currently seeing and what level do you expect.
  • Based on your current traffic can you determine the load each user generally puts on your server?

The issue is that every site is different in the resources it uses to do what it's built for and both the makeup of your site and the normal behaviors of your users will come into play in determining the resources needed.

We provide the option to quickly resize your droplet's CPU and Memory in a way that is reversible so that you can test on higher tier plans without committing completely to them. This should allow you to try out a larger size plan and see how it affects the load.

Yes the reply was helpful!! One thing I realized is if we could resize (just)CPU and RAM without having any downtime then DO will be awesome but since there will always be downtime while resizing, the only thing we can do is to try to determine the size required and resize it according.
