One-click apps: Node vs NodeJS?

Posted on November 13, 2016

I am wanting to deploy a droplet running Node.js.

However, I am confused by these to options on the “One-click apps” tab when creating a droplet: “Node 4.4.5 on 14.04” and “NodeJS 6.9.1 on 16.04”.

What is the difference between these two options? Which should use?

Thank you!

The key difference is Node version! As name says - first is 4.4.5 and second is 6.9.1. Both are Long-Term Support versions (v4 support will end 04/01/2018 and for v6 that date is 04/01/2019). But there are breaking changes between versions, which you can see at their GitHub Wiki - Breaking changes between v4 LTS and v6 LTS. If you already developed app with v4, go with it, same applies for v6. If you are new to this, choose what you like more (you could go with v6 in that case). =)

Second difference is that v4 image is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS while v6 is based on latest version of Ubuntu - 16.04 LTS.
