packages have been kept back - new ubuntu 14 image

Posted on July 20, 2014

I just deployed a new ubuntu 14.04 droplet

I’m getting this message in response to apt-get upgrade:

The following packages have been kept back:
 linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic

is this expected on a new install?

Yes, this is expected. The following command will upgrade those packages:

apt-get dist-upgrade

Great, thanks!

It’s no problem of course, just surprising that it would be required.
