Is it possible to change the port # that the console access tries to use? I believe my network at work has outbound port 22 blocked. Is there a way to change this to something like 443? I’m fairly new to Linux and that’s why I got this to begin with, to learn on my downtime.

You can change your default ssh port in the configuration file /etc/ssh/sshd_config just open that file, find the line that says:
Port 22
and update it to the port you wish to use. You will then need to restart the ssh service:
service ssh restart
