Problem with graphical applications using TightVNC

Posted on July 17, 2013

I followed these instructions to set up a GUI for the server: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/228 Whenever I open up Firefox and have it on for a short period of time, it seems to crash. The same happens when I try to open eclipse and try to Install New Software, with this error message appearing in the terminal: Xlib: extension “RANDR” missing on display “:1.0”. This message appears a little before the crash happens, so I am not too sure if it is related.

Currently using Ubuntu 12.10. What could be wrong?

There doesn’t seem to be an xorg.config file in the X11 directory. Should I create one?

What’s the output of “ls /etc/X11”?

Try disabling Xinerama: http://askubuntu.com/a/14786

Please let me know if that helps.
