redirect traffic by geolocation

First of all, I’m planning to host my application (PHP) on digitalocean. I would like to purchase a few droplets in different countries. Let’s assume I’ve droplets in:

  • Germany
  • USA
  • Netherlands
  • India

How can I redirect my users to the “nearest” location? I saw many sites using digitalocean do so (checking them by pinging the domain of them with different VPN locations). Is there some kind of guide I can use to get a point of view how to do so? My systems will run Ubuntu with nginx for serving the php application.

Bump noticed.

You probably want a CDN (Content Delivery Network). You can setup it manually, but I don’t think there is tutorials on DO that covers it (or I didn’t encountered them). What comes to my mind is CloudFlare. It’s a most popular service, many big companies are using it (e.g. DigitalOcean is one of companies who uses its services). They are offering CDN, beside CDN there are many good features, and one of important is DDoS protection. You can choose between a free plan, or some paid ones that suit your needs. Anyways, you can take yourself look at plans.

They are some others also, but in my experience, CF is best one. I also find it better to use any of these service than building your solution, it can be hard, and you can basically setup it with one server.
