I just set up my first droplet in the SanFrancisco region. However whereismyip.net shows the ip as being in New York. Is this normal? I want to set the timezone correctly.

This is normal. GeoIP is not reliable to determine the physical location of a machine.
I believe DigitalOcean’s main office is in New York.
