Safe to remove cloud-init packages post-installation?

Posted on August 20, 2015

Once a (Ubuntu) droplet has been deployed, is it safe to remove the cloud-init, cloud-guest-utils and cloud-initramfs-growroot packages?

Is cloud-init used for things like resizing / root password reset / rebuild from image?

Thanks!

OK thanks, that’s the answer I was looking for.

Hi Kint,

We use Cloud-Init for imaging/snapshotting setups. If you plan to snapshot modify this Droplet, we recommend leaving the Cloud-Init packages in place.
