Server Lag Error for Minecraft

I have a Minecraft server (Paper) 1.16.5. I’m using a droplet with Ram 8 Gigs and Intel premium 4 Cores. I usually only have 5-6 players on my server and use 8 plugins. It’s below the limit but it lags so much. I’ve tried my best to minimize the use of plugins and they’re even updated daily, but it doesn’t work as the lag won’t stop. I’m not having a good time with the server because of that. The error that usually comes is: Can’t keep up! Is the server overloaded? Running 15083ms or 183 ticks behind, Which lags the server although there are fewer players.

Hi @np03cs4s210090,

This sounds to me like network issues. In what region is your Droplet?

I did check the Status Page for any recent issues in any of the regions here:

https://status.digitalocean.com/

But I couldn’t find any. Maybe it’s possible you have created the droplet in a region that’s far away from you causing you these latency issues.

Hi there,

In addition to what @KFSys mentioned, I could suggest a couple of things:

Try choosing a data center that is closer to your current location, for example, as you are currently in Nepal maybe BLR1 would provide a lower latancy.
Make sure that the server actually has enough resources, you could use the htop command to check the current resource utilization
