Setting up Google Domains with Digital Ocean

I am trying to set up my Google domain on Digital Ocean. The records I have are these:

  • Type A - www.domainname.com - directs to droplet
  • Type A - domainname.com - directs to droplet
  • Type NS - domainname.com - directs to ns1.digitalocean.com.
  • Type NS - domainname.com - directs to ns2.digitalocean.com.
  • Type NS - domainname.com - directs to ns3.digitalocean.com.

I have waited more than 48 hours and still I get a refused to connect message. I also have checked other questions related to this and nothing has worked so far.

Hi there @knopmatthew93,

What I could suggest is to change your nameservers to the DigitalOcean nameservers and then add your domain name under your DigitalOcean account. That way you will be able to manage your DNS directly via your DigitalOcean control panel.

      I’m having the same issue, did you get this working?

      I’m using DigitalOcean Control Panel to manage my DNS, but still no luck. I’ve waited 48 hours and nothing.

        Hi there,

        If you want to manage your DNS via your DigitalOcean Control Panel, you need to make sure that you’ve updated your Nameservers to the DigitalOcean ones via the company that you’ve bought the domain name from.

        I could suggest using this DNS look up tool here to check if this is the case:

          Thanks for the reply Bobby.

          Turns out I needed to run the certbot installation process.

          I did the one-click WordPress setup, but had to skip the certbot setup bc I hadn’t pointed my domain to digitalocean yet. After WP setup I updated DNS w registrar to use digitalocean servers.

          I kept typing my domain in address bar to test if DNS had propogated but kept getting a blank page back. I didn’t realize https was being forced until I put the cursor in the address bar.

          Once I ran “cerbot –apache” my site came up normally.
