SMTP Banner Hostname not showing FQDN

Posted on October 15, 2014

I changed my droplet name so that it is the FQDN but the hostname in my SMTP banner is returning the original droplet name.

I thought this might take a while to propagate down but it’s been a few days now and still no change.

Any idea how I change the hostname returned in the SMTP banner?

edit /etc/postfix/main.cf

find the line that reads

#smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name

uncomment it (remove the “#”), and change it to suit your needs, then run this:

service postfix restart
