SNAPSHOT: what data is not included ?

Posted on December 31, 2014

I have noticed that snapshot doesn’t include the files in /tmp directory. Is it ok ? And if it is ok so how do I know what snapshot includes and what not.

Thanks Roamn

AFAIK, It should take a snapshot of the disk, memory and settings.

/tmp/ may get cleared when you restart the vm / power on the vm after reverting to a snapshot is my guess.

Eitherway, /tmp/ being lost isnt a great worry.

If you use snapshots to make more VM’s

One thing I have seen before is a problem with MAC addresses after. Make sure your VM hasnt got it hardcoded in the ifconfig for its interface.

Other than that, you should be fine. In my experience, snapshots are a complete copy of the disk + memory.
