Toronto or San Francisco region for Vancouver-based community?

Posted on October 17, 2015

Motorcycle club based in Vancouver looking to run a very simple website with a nodebb forum (again, a small community of less than 200 members). Does it matter performance-wise if I select Toronto or San Francisco for our server region?

Hi. You can use this command line tool to test latency from you to all DO regions https://github.com/dizballanze/do-latency

I suggest to ask them the check the speed and latency with the help of those two links, provided by DigitalOcean. Depending on the results, select the location with the lowest latency (Ping).

To speedtest the Toronto server: http://speedtest-tor1.digitalocean.com/

To spedtest the San Franciso server: http://speedtest-sfo1.digitalocean.com/

Regards Geraner

Thank you very much for your help :)
