Transferring data to DO through importing physical disk

Posted on June 26, 2016

I have around 4 TB of data that I want to transfer to my droplet in DO from my AWS. IS there a service in DO where I can mail the hard drive containing the data and DO staff would transfer the data locally as Amazon does in their Import/Export ?

I don’t think they do. Contact them though. I hope you’re planning on using the block storage beta as you are restricted to the current disks on the maximum size droplet.

Just for fun, without the block storage beta, you’d need

  • 7 of the 64GB droplets (640GB SSD)

or

  • 6 of the 64GB droplets (640GB SSD)
  • 1 of the 16GB droplets (160GB SSD)

With a cost of $4,480/mo or $4,000/mo respectively.

Assuming you have a single threaded upload, 4TB at an average of 500Mbps would take 18 hours to finish.
