Got some large-ish updates to do, including nginx, updating PHP to 5.5 and updating my forum software.
My plan is: Make a snapshot. Launch a new instance of that snapshot under temporary hostname, do all the updates, then just point the DNS at the new instance and kill the old instance.
Can anyone see any problems with this plan? Also, I see AMS is being updated tomorrow - should I wait for AMS2 and see if my new droplet can be created there? Will it be any faster? (Not that there’s any problem with my current droplet speed!)

Great plan! Another equally good (and, less expensive) way to go about it is to develop locally with <a href=“http://www.vagrantup.com/”>Vagrant</a> on top of <a href=“https://www.virtualbox.org/”>VirtualBox</a>. <br> <br>If you’re interested in learning more, check out <a href=“https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/why-how-to-set-up-a-wordpress-local-development-environment-with-vagrant”>Why & How-To Set Up a WordPress Local-Development Environment With Vagrant</a> (while the article is not the exact same situation you’re planning for, it does present a100% analogous use case that could be of benefit to you).

Therefore, if you need that feature, I recommend waiting until AMS2 is publicly available.
