Using the DO preconfigured LAMP image I tried to follow the instructions in “Initial Server Setup with Ubuntu 12.04”.
I changed the root password using passwd I added the new user using adduser I changed visudo
But when I log in using the new user I have to sudo every command, which I did not have to do when I built the LAMP stack myself.
Any idea why?

So why when I build the LAMP stack myself do I not have to sudo everything? Somethings, yes, but not everything. When I follow the instructions in other tutorials (like myphpadmin and wordpress installs) it all works as instructed if I build the system from scratch, but if use the DO LAMP image I cannot follow the instructions without sudo-ing everything?
