1 click automation for tutorials

September 15, 2014 2.4k views

Would you be interested in a service that automates all steps from tutorials and runs them on your droplet?

For example, everything from this tutorial (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-linux-nginx-mysql-php-lemp-stack-on-ubuntu-14-04) will be done in 1 click on a new or existing droplet.

  • Just create a new droplet (you can keep your old IP) and choose from settings => applications => LAMP stack?

  • LAMP stack is an example, but what about advanced topics such as adding nginx reverse proxy, sharded mongodb, mysql cluster etc?

  • Very interesting concept, Pager. I'd be interested in perhaps lending a hand to develop if you're open to that. Let me know your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    -Matt.

  • I personally would not just click a button to change settings on any server; however, I think a load of people would be interested in that.

On some of the tutorials, people post scripts that do all of the steps in the tutorial. I like those scripts because I can read through the steps before running them. ..If a script were available at the bottom of each Tutorial, that would be a pretty cool thing.

That sounds interesting. There are already quite a few different projects that integrate with DigitalOcean in different ways. Check out the projects page. There are different software as a service providers that build on top of DigitalOcean, configuration management and server orchastration tools that allow you to precofigure your droplet, and wrappers for our API in different programing languages.

How are you thinking of implementing this? Will be open source? Love to hear more about it.
