After setting up the domain through SSH I'm getting 404 not fund -WordPress One-Click Application

Posted on January 8, 2019

I was developing a site and using the droplet IP up until today. The client bought a domain and pointed it to the IP of the droplet and I decided it was a good time to complete the initial domain/subdomain setup that you are presented with when you log into SHH.

I entered the domain and chose not to use the Certbot for HTTPS and proceeded to test the address to find that it returns 404 Not found, even when trying to access the site with the IP that worked mere minutes earlier.

I am at a loss as to where to start to configure and fix the rest.

Matija

Exact same experience here. Being forced to use the DO way of adding a domain is soooo bad! Anyone found a solution?

Hey friend,

In this case it sounds like you haven’t added any content yet, might it make sense to go ahead and recreate the droplet? If you visit the Destroy tab after clicking on the droplet at cloud.digitalocean.com you will find a section there which allows you to simply reload the OS fresh, which retains the IP address.

This isn’t to say that troubleshooting isn’t possible, but it’s just a matter of effort vs reward, the amount of effort to troubleshoot is far greater than that required to reload the OS. If it happens again, then we’ve ruled out it being a one-time thing and need to dig further into what is happening during that initial setup.
