Hi, I’m trying to figure out if it would count against my bandwidth allotment for either side of this equation:
I want to host a MongoDB cluster on a set of 3 droplets and have my app hosted on App Platform connect to that cluster. Would this incur fees?
When I asked on Twitter Steven Normore replied to a similar question I asked last year, but I’m still unclear as to the clear answer. He mentioned that “if you have 2 AP apps and you’re communicating between them through the CDN, that will incur bandwidth usage” but my use case wasn’t 2 AP apps, and I’m not sure how I would even be able to tell if it was using the CDN?

App Platform does not currently bill for bandwidth between your app and droplets you own. That said, egress traffic from your droplet to App Platform via the droplet’s public interface may be billable via the Droplet’s standard bandwidth rate (not the more expensive App Platform CDN bandwidth rate). In many cases, the Droplet’s included bandwidth allowance should be sufficient, meaning there will be no charges.
We’re working to allow App Platform to operate on VPC networks within your account, which should further mitigate this problem.
