Hi,
I have a static React website set up on Digital Oceans App Platform. I was going to connect this to a Digital Ocean hosted Kubernetes Cluster for the nodejs but I am not sure on how to do this?
My question is. Is there much point in doing this? It seems like Digital Oceans App Platform uses Kubernetes under the hood. I will just have less control over it

Hello Jasdeep,
You can definitely host part or all of your app on App Platform, and have it connect to other applications.
If you wanted to have your React frontend on App Platform, you would just need to use whatever URL you publish and expose externally on your DigitalOcean Kubernetes cluster as your backend for the nodejs app.

App Platform can speed up time to production because it handles some of the heavy lifting for you. Take a look at some of the features here in the documentation.

In your case, if you already have a kubernetes cluster that is running a nodejs app, it would depend on your production workload. If the production load is within the limits of the starter tier, it might make sense to do so. See here for pricing of the starter tier.

The choice is really up to you!
Best, Greg
