I just came across this question. I’ve tested BigBlueButton on a Droplet with 8GB of RAM as recommended by the official documentation and it seems to be performing quite smoothly.
For anyone who comes across this question, you could take a look at this official video tutorial from BBB on how to install it on DigitalOcean:
They even go through the process of setting up BBB with Let’s Encrypt as well.

I have BBB on digital ocean now, and it works fine with the 80 gig droplet. I only use it with one or two students at a time however, so the expense is not worth the return. I am going to try it with a 20 gig disk and see how that works. But the 80 gig solution has been stable for over a year now with no problems.
