Can anyone tell if it is possible to use VirtualBox as a provider on DigitalOcean?

I just like to know if it is possible to use VBox. Not DigitalOcean as a provider.

Currently all my efforts connclude in getting the guest machine reaching the gurumeditation state. I would just like to know if I’m wasting my time with this approach.

Yes yo can. Example for FreeBSD (is my server system). First install Virtualbox headless, second install PHP virtualbox (, this is the remote control over the web in your browser. Over the the shame IP, but with diferent ports numbers you can access the virtual computer. For setup a FreeBSD host:

Yes you could - You would need to provision a fairly large droplet - install all the dependencies for and virtualbox itself - if you want to use it via a GUI you will need to install a desktop environment + vnc to remote into the desktop. All of this is quite an overkill.

If you are looking for virtualization in your droplet perhaps look into LXC/LXD on Ubuntu or Docker.
