Can I access mysql server on another droplet via private ip?

Hi,
I am creating an app and I will be having a dedicated mysql server. If I access it via public ip, the latency might be high as it will be accessed via internet. Is there a possibility that I can access it from LAN or private ip as the droplet will be within the same region?
