I would like to create two or more machines (droplets?), have them all in the same subnet, and not have anyone else’s machines in that subnet. I don’t mind how small the subnet is. Can I do that at DigitalOcean?

No there’s no truly private lan at the moment. There’s a request for it here: https://digitalocean.uservoice.com/forums/136585-digitalocean/suggestions/3574245-vlan
