MYSQL CentOS vs FreeBSD vs Fedora

I want to setup a mysql 8 with MyRocks engine and build from source with my custom parameters.

Is there any recommendation on which linux / unix distro would have better performances ?

CentOS stream FreeBSD Fedora 34

Hi @stubfeed,

I don’t think there is any better OS. It really depends on what you are most aware/knowledgeable about. All of them work with MySQL 8 with MyRocks engine.

Having said that, the officially supported platforms are :

  • CentOS 6.8
  • CentOS 7.2.x

With that in mind, CentOS 6 has reached its end of life so this is too out of the question. This leaves CentOS 7 as the best choice in hand at least in terms of documentation.

All this though is again a personal choice due to your desire to build it from source. All in all, I’ll prefer using CentOS but if you like any of the mentioned OS better use them.
