Question

Change Root Password is not Working

Background: All my sites are down - I am not having any luck with normal DO support (I plan to pay extra for support in hopes that speeds things along.) In the meantime, I thought I’d ask the community…

Here is what I have tried:

ssh root@999.999.999.999 root@999.999.999.999’s password: You are required to change your password immediately (administrator enforced) Welcome message etc. Changing password for root. Current password: Enter new password: Retype new password: Connection to 999.999.999.999 closed.

Basically, the connection is immediately terminated when I attempt to change the password. If I attempt to log back in the same thing happens.

I found a suggestion to use:

ssh root@999.999.999.999 vim .profile But I get: root@999.999.999.999’s password: WARNING: Your password has expired. Password change required but no TTY available.

Hi @f795ec780adc-4fc5-aab1-c267a1,

I’ll suggest using the Recovery Console. Here is a link to the documentation:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/how-to/recovery/recovery-console/

In there you shouldn’t experience the Connection closed issue.
