Domain Redirecting to "/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage"

Posted on January 24, 2022

Hello Team,

I have recently moved my website from Namecheap to Digital Ocean. I have installed the SSL and everything. However, my domain is ending up with /cgi-sys/defaultwebpage error. As there is no Cpanel or WHM in Digital Ocean to overcome this issue, can you help me sort this out?

Heya,

This error is commonly caused when you configure a new domain name in cPanel/WHM and can be really annoying.

  1. Ensure your domain’s DNS records are correctly pointing to your DigitalOcean Droplet’s IP address. This may take some time to propagate.
  2. Check your web server’s configuration files (e.g., Apache or NGINX) to make sure the appropriate server block or virtual host is configured for your domain and its document root is set to the right path.
  3. Verify that your website’s index file (e.g., index.html or index.php) is present in the document root directory.

For example, if you’re using WordPress this will be the index.php file.

Hope that this helps!
