Hi, i am planning of shifting to digital ocean cloud vps so i am confused how the billing actually works. My question is that i have a news website that will run for 24x7 for a month without stopping so if i consider the $15/mo plan and host my website on it then how i will be charged? There are 744 hours in a month of august so if i pay $15/mo then its fine but according to hourly billing its $0.022/hr so it will be (0.022 x 744) = $16.368 now this is confusing me whether i am paying for a month or an hour? and another question is how the hourly charge works? if my website is to stay live for a whole month without stopping then i will be charged as long as the website? and suppose if there are no visitors on my website then still it will be considered running and i will keep getting charged?

Hello friend!
Great question. We stop counting at the monthly rate to help you budget and know what you’re going to spend. So a $5/m server has an hourly fee until it reaches $5, then it stops counting. This means you can pay less than the monthly cost, but you won’t be paying more.
Hope that makes sense!
Kind Regards, Jarland
Hello there,
DigitalOcean billing cycles are monthly only. Your account balance accrues over the course of the calendar month based on the cost of the resources you use. DigitalOcean is also required by law to apply taxes for certain countries. DigitalOcean automatically invoices and charges your account’s primary payment method on the first day of each month for the previous month’s usage, or partway through the month if you exceed your account’s usage threshold. You can read more about it here:

The amount depends on the service/droplet you have and the network you use. Basically, in addition to your billing, you can be billed based on Bandwidth. Droplets include free outbound data transfer, starting at 1,000 GiB/month for the smallest plan. Excess data transfer is billed at $0.01/GiB. For example, the cost of 1,000 GiB of overage is $10. Inbound bandwidth to Droplets is always free. More about it here

Hope that this helps!
