How do you exactly measure data being used from a mongodb server?

Posted on March 1, 2018

I have a very small application I made for a client and I want to give them an accurate estimate of a MongoDB server price. So when they say transfer what does that exactly mean? What goes into their measurement and how do you accurately predict and measure before choosing a plan?

If you are running your web service on a droplet and your MongoDB server on a droplet as well you can have them communicate over the VPC (Virtual Private Network) as a result any data transferred between the two servers will not be counted as part of your bandwidth.

Only outbound bandwidth on the public interface is counted towards your bandwidth amount.

It is also recommend to connect to any database server on a private network for security reasons as well, as you don’t want MongoDB running on a public IP and port accessible to the internet.
